Es wird durch eine Genduplikation auf dem X-Chromosom verursacht, die zu einer \u00dcberexpression des MeCP2-Proteins f\u00fchrt. Das Syndrom ist durch eine schwere geistige Behinderung, Entwicklungsverz\u00f6gerung, Hypotonie, wiederkehrende Infektionen und den Beginn von Krampfanf\u00e4llen gekennzeichnet, die zu einer R\u00fcckbildung f\u00fchren.<\/p>\n\n<p>Verschiedene Forschungsgruppen arbeiten hart daran, eine Heilung f\u00fcr MDS zu finden. Die Gruppe von Prof. Huda Zoghbi hat in einem Tiermodell nachgewiesen, dass die Symptome reversibel sind, wenn die Menge des MeCP2-Proteins korrigiert wird.<\/p>\n\n<p>Octapharma ist ein familiengef\u00fchrtes Unternehmen, das Medikamente auf der Grundlage von Humanproteinen aus menschlichen Zelllinien und menschlichem Plasma entwickelt und herstellt.<\/p>\n\n<p>Caroline Covini, Mitbegr\u00fcnderin des Vereins \"Lasst uns MDS heilen\" und Mutter eines betroffenen Jungen, ist Projektleiterin in Forschung und Entwicklung bei Octapharma, Wien.<\/p>\n\n<p>Im Sommer 2022 veranstaltete das Pharmaunternehmen eine V-Challenge f\u00fcr seine Angestellten in Wien. Alle Teilnehmer konnten entweder laufen, radeln oder wandern. Am Ende der Challenge wurden in 88 Tagen \u00fcber 95.100 km zur\u00fcckgelegt.
