Intensive Week Lignano 2025 – A Special Time for Our Family

This year, our family – the Curics – had the opportunity to take part in the Intensive Week in Lignano for the very first time. It was recommended to us by Dr. Baumgartner, and it truly turned out to be a stroke of luck.

At first, we weren’t sure what to expect. But this week far exceeded our expectations. We not only gained new strength, but also learned a lot about ourselves as a family and as a couple. Especially enriching was the exchange with other families who are experiencing similar challenges – open, honest, and supportive.

In total, there were ten families from Austria, including two families with MECP2-affected children: us, and the Covini family, who are also the founders of our association. It was wonderful to share this special setting together and to connect on a deeper personal level.

The weekly schedule was clearly structured, yet pleasantly relaxed: every morning, there were informative lectures for us parents on topics that concern us all, but often get overlooked in everyday life. These inputs inspired reflection, created space for group discussions, and encouraged valuable exchanges as a couple.

Meanwhile, both the affected children and their healthy siblings were lovingly cared for. A highlight for our kids was the daily children’s disco in the evening – great fun for everyone.

To simply let your soul unwind for a whole week – this is by no means a given for families with special needs. All the more grateful we are that we were able to experience this intense and healing time in Italy.

We are already looking forward to next year and can wholeheartedly recommend this experience to all families with children with disabilities.
